President Trump’s attack on the NFL is turning out to be a huge disaster for him, as the majority of the country is uniting against him in solidarity. Trump attempted to use the NFL’s ratings twice yesterday, as justification for his attack on protesters, saying that ratings are “way” down because “many stay away because they love our country.” Unfortunately for Trump, the ratings for yesterday’s games are in, and they prove Trump’s boycott is a huge failure.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported this morning that the ratings for Sunday’s games yesterday, are hitting 7 year highs and look spectacular. “Preliminary ratings for NFL games on CBS yesterday were UP 4% vs Week 3 of last year. Its pregame show had highest viewership in 7 YEARS.” Rovell posted.

This officially makes Trump’s NFL boycott a disaster. His call for a boycott is now causing the NFL to do better than it has in nearly a decade. If many people continue to tune in, the NFL will only benefit from standing up to Trump. Increased viewership here is the exact definition of a failed boycott.
Trump, clearly upset about his boycott failing, sent out a flurry of posts to social media this morning, in a desperate attempt to make it work. He even tried to exploit the death of Pat Tillman which is considered “one of the most infamous friendly-fire deaths in U.S. military history.”
Trump called for the boycott over the weekend, when he shared a post on social media saying, “You can boycott our anthem WE CAN BOYCOTT YOU!”
